A note about the scent of wool - Our wool, both natural and organic, is cleaned and processed naturally without the use of harsh chemicals. That's why you may initially notice the mild sweet scent of sunny farm pastures when you receive your new wool product. Our wool retains 1% of the naturally occurring lanolin oil, which helps condition the fibers and keep them fluffy and soft for years to come. Most customers find the scent dissipates within a few days.

About Mold, Mildew & Dust Mites
Always Protect Your Bedding: Use washable duvet covers for comforters and washable cases for pillows. Use a mattress protector or wool moisture barrier for mattresses and toppers.
Let Wool Breathe: Natural fibers need airflow. Unmake your bed in the morning to let moisture evaporate, and make sure you are storing bedding in a cool, dry place when not in use.
Sun Your Wool: A few times a year, refresh wool bedding indoors by opening curtains to let the rays in. You can also take your items outside in the summer to soak up the sun in the fresh air. This helps to disinfect and revitalize the wool.
Do Not Dry Clean, even at natural-focused cleaners.
Sometimes accidents happen! When the unforeseen occurs, always spot clean first to extend product life.
Blot spills immediately with a clean, absorbent towel.
Avoid using harsh detergent or stain removers, and instead use a gentle option based on the situation:
For larger stains:
Although we recommend spot cleaning whenever possible, there may come a time that you need to fully launder your product. Machine washing should only be a last resort. Every wash of wool products risks shrinkage or felting.
Certain products are not suitable for machine washing. Read this entire page for guidance.
Never use the wash cycle - even "delicate" settings agitate and damage wool.
Steps:
Soak: Fill with cold water and add a small amount of biodegradable detergent or wool wash. Let items soak.
Spin: Skip the wash cycle. Manually run the spin cycle to remove water.
Repeat: Optional additional soak and spin as needed.
Air Dry Only: Drape in the sun or a warm place. Never machine dry.

Because washing machines vary widely, we cannot guarantee bedding integrity once machine washed. We want you to enjoy your natural products for years to come and offer these washing instructions to assist you in giving them the best care possible. We encourage using the soak-and-spin method and spot cleaning to extend product life.

Expect some natural felting and light fiber shedding in the first 6–8 months of consistent use. This will decrease once the break in period is over.
Spot clean and sun to refresh.
Place a sheet on top for extra protection.
If machine washing post-break-in, follow the soak-and-spin method outlined above, but expect some shrinkage and additional felting. Do not machine dry.
Follow soak-and-spin for minimal shrinkage.
For convenience, these items can be washed on a normal cycle with additional laundry, but this will result in more shrinkage.
Air dry only.
Spot clean only.
The fill is not washable.
The zipper case can be machine washed, but as they are 100% cotton, please only use cold water and hang dry to prevent shrinkage.
Spot clean only recommended. Watch our comforter care video for step-by-step guidance.
Use an Mattress Protector on all Holy Lamb Organics mattresses and shikibutons.
Natural mattress protectors absorb body oils and moisture, preventing them from soaking into your mattress. Using a mattress protector will double the life of your mattress, keeping it clean and dry for years to come.
Using a natural mattress protector is a requirement for our mattress warranty, but is especially helpful for cribs and toddler beds, households with pets, and eating in bed.
As with wool bedding in general, our mattresses require good air flow for proper care. They must be kept on a slatted frame or foundation to prevent moisture from getting trapped. This is so important that it's part of our warranty requirements!
Avoid placing mattresses directly on solid surfaces (like floors or plywood), which trap moisture and cause mold or mildew.
Flip mattresses regularly to prevent body impressions and extend comfort, as well as assist with air flow and evaporation. When not flipped, a mattress that is supposed to last for 20 years might only be comfortable for 5-10.
Mattress Toppers: Flip or rotate every other week (or with sheet changes). Flip or rotate more often in the first 2 months of use to evenly compress the wool layers and prevent body impressions.
Latex Mattresses: Flip/rotate every 3–6 months. Latex is durable, but flipping allows the wool and cotton layers to air out evenly.
Mold and mildew occur as a result of moisture build-up and lack of ventilation. Use slatted bases and mattress protectors to minimize moisture accumulation. Flip your products often to air them out, and sun your wool products to allow excess moisture to evaporate. Once mold or mildew is established, it is often too late to remedy - catch it early!
Our materials, wool and latex, are naturally dust mite resistant. For extra precautions for sensitive individuals:
