Natural Mattress- Latex 7"
Similar to other memory foams on the market, but better. Our breathable, natural Dunlop latex core is wrapped in a generous swath of Premium Eco Wool to make our chemical-free, hypoallergenic, mold resistant, dust mite repellent mattress. It’s not too good to be true. It’s our Natural latex mattress.

Comfort and conscience at its core
Comfortable conforming support for a gentle and restorative sleep. Every night.
Latex is known for its balanced weight distribution qualities that eliminate pressure points and excellent motion separation means you keep sleeping while another person, or even a pet, may turn over or shift on the bed.
Choose a chemical-free mattress and rest assured that there are no fire retardant chemicals in this mattress.
What It Is
The core consists of the most natural latex available (Dunlop, which is made from the sap of a rubber tree, then essentially steamed and dried into form). This is the comfort and support you’ve been dreaming of.
Then each one is topped off with an outer encasement of organic cotton fabric with naturally fire retardant wool layers quilted on the inside. This mattress has it all: comfort, support, and breathability.

The latex we use is the pure and natural Dunlop latex process (vs the Talalay, which uses unspecified curing agents and oftentimes ammonia to stabilize the liquid rubber). Natural Materials Are Good For You
Our mattresses are made out of 100% natural materials.
The majority of mattresses are made with synthetic foams and resins that are known to off-gas harmful chemicals. Maybe you’ve had to air out other new mattresses because of fumes or smells?
Your nose, and throat and lungs, won’t burn or choke when you’re trying to rest on our mattress. Drift to sleep, safe & sound, with our clean, natural, chemical-free mattress.
Both wool and latex, major components of our mattresses are hypoallergenic, resist mold & mildews and repel dust mites. The mass manufactured mattress companies can’t claim this. If you’re looking for the most healthy mattress next to your body, you’ve found it.
Absolutely No Fire Retardant Chemicals
All mattresses by law are required to be fire-retardant. The most common and cheap way to meet this requirement is to douse the mattress in fire-retardant toxic chemicals. We have a better way.
All of our mattresses are wrapped in thick layers of Premium Eco-Wool™ AND they all pass the legal requirements (and fire tests!) in order to get to the market. Wool is naturally fire retardant: it just doesn’t ignite.
Temperature Regulating: A Perfect Sleep
All of our mattresses are wrapped in wool to wick away moisture, leaving your body at a perfect temp and able to get a deeper sleep.
About memory foam: Many people complain about sweating and being too hot to get a good rest on latex or memory foam mattresses. Not the case with ours. Our Dunlop latex has an open cell structure which lets air move freely through it.
More Restful Sleep
Two studies at the Polytechnic Institute of Wales (University of Glamorgan) and the Hohenstein Institute in Germany offer proof. Scientists found that human subjects who used a wool comforter were kept drier by wool’s moisture wicking properties, plus their subject’s heart rates were lowered indicating a more restful deeper sleep.
There is always a way. Anyone can get into a non-fire retardant natural material mattress at a reasonable price. Please refer to our Mattress Comparison Chart which organizes the mattresses by price. See our Layaway Program as well.
Your nightly rest and rejuvenation is worth the price of a natural, breathable mattress.
Which Mattress Is Right For You?
First off, rest assured that none of our mattresses have fire retardant chemicals. Plus, all of our mattresses are made of natural materials and are designed to provide proper back support regardless of their firmness ratings. Whether you like a soft, medium, or firm mattress, the kind of support in the feel of a mattress is the one that’s right for you.
It can certainly be a challenge to purchase a mattress that you’ve never laid on before. The best thing to do is to come into our showroom and try them out. If that isn’t possible, we’ve got a few things to consider, then review the manufacturers’ suggested firmness ratings.
Things To Consider
The majority of the population prefers a medium feel. We sell far more “mediums” than anything else. In general, the heavier the person the thicker the mattress as well as a softer feel. For children and lightweight people, a thinner and firmer mattress will work just fine.
A mattress on a platform frame or a wood foundation will be firmer than on a box spring.
If you’re not able to visit our showroom, try ordering a firmer mattress that you can “soften up” with a topper, if needed, once you’ve slept on it for a while.
- It may be more expensive to order in 2 shipments, but it may prevent a costly return if you don't like it in the end.
Mattress Comparison Chart
This spreadsheet outlines all of our mattresses and allows you to compare prices, materials, firmness ratings, and warranties.

ALL WOOL MATTRESS
Main Attributes: Just one simple ingredient - wool. It is durable, the most breathable, the most handmade, known for soothing ailments and great for pressure point relief. Great motion separation (can’t feel other person moving in bed).
Firmness Level or Feel: The all wool mattress is fairly thin and is considered a Firm Mattress. Try a layering system of toppers on this mattress to adjust the firmness, by adding a wool or latex topper to the top or a latex layer to the bottom of the mattress.
Main Attributes: The Dunlop latex core is most similar to a foam mattress. It retains its shape better than foam due to “push back” meaning the latex responds instantaneously when pressure is removed thus returning immediately to its original shape, whereas Tempurpedic-type mattresses take more time to respond.
Why is this important? You get constant and full support the second you move or shift while sleeping. This also has great motion separation, so you won’t be disturbed by another person’s movements in bed.
Dunlop Latex is made from the Rubber tree and has an open cell structure, so it allows air to flow freely through it. This is what makes it breathable and not too hot to sleep on (a common complaint with memory foam).
Firmness Level or Feel:
Main Attributes: This type of mattress is traditional and familiar in its bouncy feel. It’s also the most common on the market. Consider our Tight Top as a cost-effective option for a natural mattress.
Firmness Level or Feel: Choose from the 8” Tight Top a Firm mattress or soften it up with the 12” Pillow Top Mattress featuring a removable pillow top for a Medium feel that is not too firm yet not too soft. Just right.
Natural Latex was first sold in the 1930's when the process to whip and bake natural tree rubber was invented. Since then, all-natural and certified organic latex has earned a spot in our bedrooms for its unique and beneficial qualities.
Why Is Natural Latex Wonderful for Bedding?
With its natural elasticity, latex supports and conforms to the geography of the entire body, easing pressure on hips and shoulders while also supporting the small of the back and the waist.
Natural Dunlop latex stands the test of time and does not dip or flatten out over time with proper care. Latex's long-lasting comfort can easily carry a person from childhood well into adulthood.
Dunlop Latex comes from the tropical rubber tree, Hevea Brasiliensis. The tree, when tapped, exudes a milky fluid which flows freely and can be harvested for up to approximately 30 years.
A Renewable Resource, From Trees
Each tree, when tapped, exudes a milky fluid which flows freely and can be harvested for up to approximately 30 years. "Just one queen size mattress requires 12 acres of rubber plantations to be tapped (which does not harm the trees). This number of trees absorbs a huge 143 tonnes of CO² from the air every year, and provides employment for 8 rubber tappers." (1)
Rubberized latex is safe and hypoallergenic for just about everyone. Latex is also naturally resistant to dust mites, mold, mildew, fungus, and bacteria. Including latex in your sleep system can be very beneficial to people with allergies.
Latex stays put. Your head on a latex pillow will have consistent support throughout the night and you won't feel your partner moving with a latex topper or mattress. This means fewer disturbances in the night.
Sourcing - Fairly
Our latex specifically used to make the all-natural mattress brands we sell all come from tree farms in Sri Lanka that are FSC Certified (Forest Stewardship Council).
For our all-organic latex mattresses, the latex is sourced from organically certified farms and processed in GOLS certified factories in India. This means only organic fertilizers can be used and workers are employed to fairtrade standards.
While Latex is not produced in America, your mattress is! We collaborate with only the best American mattress producers, who provide living wages to their employees. Our certified organic mattresses are produced in GOLS and GOTS certified facilities.
Natural wool is a timeless option for bedding. It’s actually been used for centuries. Our grandmothers knew the many benefits that wool provides, now you do too.
Why Is Wool Bedding So Great?
Wool is the most breathable filling material available, making it both cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It actually helps to regulate your body temperature.
Wool is a natural material; something grown, not made in a lab. Your body knows the difference. Wool surpasses synthetic fill in terms of quality and durability.
Dust Mite Resistant
Wool is a great choice if dust mites bug you or if you’re allergic. It's all about the microclimate. Wool fibers are able to absorb and release moisture due to its intrinsic wicking properties, creating a micro-climate with a lower relative humidity inhospitable to dust mites.
Anti-Microbial & Anti-Bacterial
Amazingly, wool resists bacteria. It’s actually both antimicrobial and antibacterial.
Naturally Fire Resistant
Wool is fire resistant, providing a safe sleeping environment. Wool does not catch on fire and actually acts as a natural fire retardant.
A Renewable Resource, From Sheep
Unlike bedding that uses plucked down feathers, a sheep grows a coat of wool annually and is not harmed during shearing (it’s like getting a haircut).
Supports Small Farms And Farmers
Wool is a sustainable product and helps small farmers make a living.
Sustainable And Lasting
With proper care, your woollen bedding can last for decades.
It Stays In Place In Your Bedding
Wool batting, being one continuous piece, stays in place in our products and is hand-tufted to further secure it. This is unlike down bedding which shifts over time and creates bare spots in a comforter.
Protection Is Best
We highly recommend protecting your new investment with a Moisture Barrier or Puddle Pad. These are thick, felted layers of wool that lay flat on top of your mattress and secured in place by the fitted sheet. An excellent natural way to protect your mattress from the inevitable spills that happen in life!
We ask that you support your mattress, so it can support you. A proper bed frame helps avoid structural damage, prevents your bed from sagging and is essential for the longevity of your organic mattress. The mattress needs to be placed on a rigid, ventilated, flat surface. See proper mattress support guidelines.
Foundations For Spring & Latex Mattresses
It is not necessary to use a foundation unless the bedframe you are choosing needs a foundation for either support or height. In that case, we highly recommend you purchase a new foundation from us- one that complies with the proper support specs. However, you may use a different foundation with the following disclosures:
our organic mattresses are compliant with federal flammability laws. (And, we don’t use any chemicals, just wool.) But, organic mattresses and foundations are tested together. Mixing and matching our mattress with another foundation or box spring will render the flammability tests void.
placing our mattress on a different foundation without proper support may void the warranty.
We do not recommend a foundation with an All Wool Mattress.
Care for Latex & Spring Mattresses
Care for the All Wool Mattress
BREAK IN PERIOD: Each wool mattress is carefully compressed by hand when it is created, but be aware that a mattress will compress an additional 10-15% during the first 3-6 months of use. This is a completely natural process; it does not decrease any of the positive qualities of sleeping on wool bedding. In order to avoid creating "dips" where you sleep, a few simple steps can be taken:
Flip and rotate your new bedding frequently during this period (first 3-6 months).
Sleep on all parts of your bed. An occasional nap in the center of the bed will help to avoid creating a "hump" where no one usually sleeps.
Complete care instructions will be provided with your mattress purchase.
If an accident damages your wool mattress or if it simply needs a fresh layer of wool, we can help put you in contact with the manufacturer to have it refurbished. Please Contact Us for the details.
Try vacuuming your mattress if it needs additional cleaning or freshening.
Humid Climates: If you live in a humid climate you may want to take additional steps to make sure your bedding stays fresh.
Use a dehumidifier, place items out in the sun frequently, fold toppers & mattresses in half alternating sides to allow additional airflow, vacuum your mattress to pull air through the fibers.
While wool is resistant to mold and mildews you still want to take extra steps to reduce moisture in your bedding.
Unmake Your Bed
One of the best things you can do is unmake your bed in the morning for a few hours, allowing the moisture you gave off during the night to evaporate from the wool bedding.
Protection Is Key
Protect your wool bedding by placing it inside an appropriate cotton cover that can be washed regularly and act as a barrier for your bedding during everyday use.
In case of spills & accidents
Gently spot clean the affected area.
- You can also treat the problem area with live cultured enzymes which eliminate odors. (i.e. Biokleen makes a product called Bac Out.) These enzyme products can be found at your local health food store/ co-op.
Proper Mattress Support
Without proper support, a mattress can turn saggy and uncomfortable prematurely. Plus, if you don’t support a mattress properly it can void the warranty! All of our mattresses need to be placed on a rigid, ventilated flat surface to accomplish 2 goals:
Support: All of the mattresses will need proper support. If the mattress is not properly supported you will experience sagging and possible structural damage to the mattress. Support the mattress so that it can support your body. Note: Failure to provide both adequate ventilation as well as proper support can render the warranty void.
Breathability: We recommend that all of our mattresses be placed on a breathable surface and not on a solid platform frame or on the floor. Solid frames are not ventilated and won’t provide enough airflow (unless you live in a very dry climate). This is why our bed frames and foundations feature slats in the design.
What NOT to do:
Don’t put your mattress on the floor.
No solid platform frames, mattresses need to breathe.
No spring frames for cribs. Frames with springs are not rigid enough to provide adequate support to the crib mattress.
Best Ways To Support Your Mattress:
#1: Slatted Wood Bed Frame
Slatted bed frames provide optimal support as well as airflow. When picking out a slatted frame be sure that it has the following specs:
Solid wooden slats consisting of 2.5” wide and spaced 1.5” apart provide the best support and optimize airflow. Slats spaced more than 1.5” apart may allow the sleeper to feel the spaces between the slats and render the warranty void.
Approx. 17 slats for Queen & King and 15 slats for Twin & Full sizes.
Full - King sizes must have a rigid center support that runs head to foot and ideally 5 sturdy legs (3 minimum) touching the floor.
Our featured slatted wooden frame, The California Beauty Bedframe is made to specifically meet these support requirements and is made for all of our mattresses. Check out this small scale builder who uses selectively harvested wood and natural finishes.
#2: Metal Frames with Wood Foundations
Metal frames with the following specs can be used. You can also add a wood foundation (if it meets the specs below under “wood foundation”).
Use a frame that supports the head, foot and sides.
Full - King sizes must have a rigid center support and 5 legs (4 corners and 1 in middle).
Regularly check all bolts, screws, legs, and castors to make sure they haven’t loosened.
Place a wood foundation on top of the metal frame and then your natural mattress.
Adding Slats to a Metal Frame
Some customers will add slats directly to the metal frame and place the mattress right on top. That is fine as long as you follow all of the specifications outlined above for Slatted Frames.
Wood Foundation Specs
We offer a wood foundation in 2 heights to meet your mattress needs that is specifically designed to meet proper support criteria. This Foundation is intended for all latex & innerspring mattresses (not the All Wool Mattress). If you choose a wood foundation that is not from Holy Lamb Organics make sure it has at least 17 slats for Queen & King Sizes and 15 slats for Twin & Full sizes. Also note that using a foundation that is not from Holy Lamb Organics will render the flammability test void.
About Box Springs
We do not currently offer an organic box spring (though we have in the past). If you use a box spring remember that it will add some softness to your mattress as it is a spring coil unit which has some give. A box spring will need to be supported by a metal frame with a rigid center support for Full - King sizes.
Note: using a box spring that is not from Holy Lamb Organics will render the flammability test void.
About Unfinished Wood: A Recommendation
If the wood on your bed frame is unfinished, we recommend placing a wool Moisture Barrier over the frame before placing the mattress. This will reduce wear on the mattress cover and impede the transfer of splinters.

Certifications & Testing

IAOS's role is as an independent technical expert. It verifies the correct application of the standard and the requirements for certification.
All COTTON used at Holy Lamb Organics is IOAS certified.
Eco Wool is produced to the highest standards on local American farms; some of these standards are beyond those specified for organic materials. Eco Wool is not certified organic. At this time very little organic wool is available on the market; almost no organic wool is grown in the United States.
We have access to organic wool from New Zealand that is pure and clean, though due to it being only one type of wool, it doesn’t offer the kind of resilience or bounce that our Premium Eco Wool does. Our Eco Wool is a blend of about 7 different types of wool varying from fine to coarse in order to create the most ideal wool fiber for use in bedding.
Our WOOL is Premium Eco Wool.

All of the wool batting, as well as moisture barrier fabric and wool blanket fabric that we use in manufacturing, is tested for heavy metals through fiber sample analysis.
The official report indicates: "No toxic compounds were detected...Growers and ranchers raise sheep relative to organic standards (do not use herbicides, pesticides or growth hormones)."
Though not required by law, our mill has these materials tested anyways to provide you with the assurance as to the quality of our raw materials.
Element Materials Technology Tested
All materials at Holy Lamb Organics that have a "next to skin" use are run through a voluntary Phthalates test (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act CPSIA of 2008). This test is required by law and provides an extra assurance as to the quality of our natural materials.
All of our toppers and mattresses are required to meet the cigarette burn test 1633. Our verification is printed on all of our sewn-in product labels: "This Product Complies with the Federal Flammability Standard 16 CFR part 1632".
"I am absolutely happy with my purchase! I bought my son (10 months) the organic mattress pad for his crib, and saw a change in his restfulness that very night. When I looked at what he used to sleep on and compared it to his new pad, I could see how unnatural it was for him to sleep on such a hard, cold, and un-cozy surface. Not to mention all of the chemicals he was breathing in! I LOVE how it feels - silky soft on the outside and yet firm enough on the inside to support him. I love how it smells- natural, breathable, healthy."
"I wanted healthy bedding for our baby and after finding Holy Lamb Organics web site and reading what they offer I thought I would get that from them. I appreciate that you were willing to make a custom bassinet mattress for me. It's one of the best purchases I have made. Our baby seems happy with it too and sleeps very well on it. Now I want one for our bed!"
