What does it mean to be a zero waste manufacturing company? At Holy Lamb Organics we are conscious of how we go about every step of our production. We promise that every by-product from our production is either composted or recycled. There is no such thing as "waste" and truly as consumers when we throw something away in the garbage, there is no "away".
Here are some examples of how we acheive this goal. Our by-products consist of fabric, thread, yarn and wool scraps. We initially cut our fabric in an efficient way so there is as little waste as possible. Smaller pieces of both wool and fabric are used to make smaller products or are used to make small samples for store display and for customer requests. For the tiniest of fabric, thread, yarn and wool scraps that just can't be used for much (even the contents of the shop vac) we give them to the worms. That's right folks. The fancy term for this is vermiculture. Red worms, the same type that are in a home composting pile, eat up the fabric and wool as it begins to break down. All that is required is some patience. In the end, through nature's decomposers, our scraps magically transform into rich earth. Isn't that a happy ending? For a great source of red worms for your compost please support Oakville's own vermiculture business: Black River Worm Farm. We highly encourage our customers to recycle or reuse their organic bedding when it has reached the end of it's life cycle (many decades later). Please see the link below for suggestions on how you can recycle, reuse or compost your product at the end of it's life cycle.
